Guns and Powder

This site is being built really for the Black Powder enthusiast. It is intended to look at some of the less well known parts of the history and development of the muzzle loading firearms. It is also going to have a very progressive development. It is not intended to be definitive, as I do not believe that as with any subject learning is never complete as we are discovering things all the time.

Forge of Avalon

If you have any interest in swords from the historical perspective or their manufacture. I can really recommend Richard Hoecker of the Forge of Avalon. I first met Richard in 2009 at his open evening when he and his partner Kate started the business in Glastonbury. He is a true craftsman, one of a dying breed. Richard is a swordsmith who makes blades and knives to a standard that are museum quality. It truly is the skill of working with fire and steel. Seeing him make a Damascus steel blade is quite incredible. If you fancy a try on one of his courses, I would really recommend the experience. Alternatively If you want that special surprise present for your partner, why not give them a gift token for a course. They are available from Richard or Kate who will be pleased to assist you.

Redlake B and B Plus Caravans and Camping

Try Fly Fishing for Trout   (Now Open All Year Road

This is a very pleasant place to stay, just opposite where I live. The new owners are Barry and Mandy have worked very hard over the past year to provide a welcoming and restful stay for visitors. Whether you are taking advantage of their Bed and Breakfast or bring you own caravan, power hook-up is also available. If you are a camper, just book up a pitch for your tent.

This site is also of historic interest as it has the source of the Bradley Spring which dates back to Roman Times. The special quality of this water feeds the trout lake that produces such excellent quality fish.

Give them a call to book Bed and Breakfast or book a pitch to stay for a day or a week or a ticket to fish. This small intimate site is very relaxing and really allows you to get rid of all the stress of the daily routine.
